Please ignore the people above, they will confuse you. I an an American living in Buenos Aires on a tourist visa right now, so I know the deal. From Argentina, you need a visa to go to Brazil, Paraguay and Bolivia. You do not need a visa to go to Uruguay or Chile.

If you are from the US, you will definitely need a visa to enter Chile. However, the visa is granted upon entry, so there is no paperwork to do beforehand. You do have to pay around US$100 (a reciprocity fee, which means you pay because Chileans have to pay for visas to the US).

South America is NOT like the european union… each country has different requirements, so you’ll have to read up on each. Not at all like Europe, sorry!

most likely you will not need a visa, the only exception would be Bolivia and Brazil that require Americans to get a visa prior arrival.
